Why doesn't doHOOPS always
respond to what I say?
Here are the most
likely reasons:
- You need a better
microphone. (A high-quality headset microphone with
noise filters -- preferably a Speech Recognition
Certified microphone -- is essential.
- You need to
train your microphone to your own voice. (Make sure you
create a Speaker or Speech Recognition Profile for
yourself, then run at least one Training Session
from the SPEECH button on the doHOOPS Main Court
Window. Running additional Training Sessions can help,
also.)
- You need to
practice specific doHOOPS words or phrases. (Make
sure you have selected your own Speaker Profile for
practicing, then go to the doHOOPS Practice
Window, which you can get to from the SPEECH button
on the Main Court. Read the Practice tips shown, then
watch the Results display to see what doHOOPS is
hearing. Repeating "problem" words or
phrases until you see them reliably displayed in the
Results area can help.)
- Slow down! doHOOPS
listens for ONE PIECE of information at a time. If
you say "Player 15 steal" doHOOPS may
respond to "Player 15." then ask you what
player 15 did. Or it may not respond at all! The current
version of doHOOPS is designed to accept your
spoken information in separate steps, just like mouse
clicks or keyboard shortcuts. So just say WHO. Or just
say WHAT. Then WAIT! doHOOPS will ask you what it
needs to know next!
- Turn doHOOPS
Listening (and/or your microphone) off whenever you
aren't recording game actions. Talking to someone next to
you while doHOOPS is still Listening can have unforeseen
results as doHOOPS tries to figure out what it
should do with what you've just said!
- Always be
prepared to click instead of speak, in case doHOOPS
didn't hear you correctly, or can't respond quickly
enough.
