What you need:
- Windows
98® or higher (including Windows 2000®,
Windows ME®, Windows XP®)
- Pentium®
3 or higher processor (or equivalent) This is
especially important if you are installing the Speech
Recognition features.
- A
minimum of 128 MB of RAM is recommended,
especially if you are using Speech Recognition.
(Less will work, but more is better!)
- 90 MB
available hard drive space (less if you don't
install Speech Recognition features).
Special requirements for using
Speech Recognition:
- Microsoft
Internet Explorer® 5.0 (or a later version) must
be installed on your computer or this Speech
Recognition Engine WILL NOT WORK! Users of
Windows NT® 4 with any version of the Service
Packs require Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or
later. (Check Micosoft's website to learn about
downloading Internet Explorer, if needed.)
- Not
all sound cards and sound devices are supported
by this Speech Recognition Engine, although most
are. During your trial period, please test the
Speech Recognition features included with doHOOPS
to be sure that your particular system will
support this engine.
- A
high-quality HEADSET microphone with
noise filters is ESSENTIAL.. We
recommend a Speech Recognition Certified
microphone. (A privacy shield may also be
helpful, if available.) You can use a lower-quality
microphone for initial testing--but it won't be
able to give you predictable results in the noisy
environment of a basketball game!
During a game:
- Don't
run any other software using Speech Recognition
while you're running doHOOPS.
- Use a
mouse with your laptop if at all possible. (Track-pads
and other laptop pointing devices are usually
slow and hard to use accurately during the fast
pace of a game.) You can also use other pointing
devices, such as touch-screens. Try different
devices to see what works best for you. (And
remember to adjust the device settings so your
mouse or touch-screen --or whatever you use--
works as easily as possible for you.)
- If
you're using doHOOPS on a laptop or
notebook PC, please use long-lasting batteries.
It's good to have a second battery, also --
running out of power during a game is not a good
thing!
- Have
a floppy drive available to make a quick "I'll
probably never need it" backup at halftime
or after the final buzzer.
- As
with all stats entry, it's always wise to have a
spotter.
- Sit
on the same side of the court as the benches,
near the scorer's table if possible.
